COMMITTED TO THE PRINCIPLES OF LEGAL EXCELLENCE,
COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND INCREASED MINORITY PARTICIPATION IN THE PRACTICE
OF LAW

ABOUT
THE PROGRAM
This is
a collaborative effort between the Howard
University School of Law, and two National Bar Association
affiliates, the Black Women's Bar Association
of Suburban Maryland and the J.
Franklyn Bounre Bar Association. Howard University School
of Law has a storied history with the National
Bar Association which was created, in large part, by
the efforts of Charles Hamilton Houston in 1925. Houston,
mentor to Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, was Dean of the lawschool
and is recognized as the architect of the nationwide litigation which
led to the Supreme Court's landmark decision in Brown v.
Board of Education. J. Franklyn
Bourne was very involved in efforts to realize the promise
of Brown in Prince George's County, Maryland.
To be sure, without passing a bar examination, we would not benefit
from the work of both attorneys Charles Hamilton Houston
and J. Franklyn Bourne.
Therefore, the
HUSL Bar Mentors Program harkens to JFB's Mission to
insure the continuation of African-Americans in the legal profession.
